Class Descriptions

Mixed Age (birth - 5 years)

Researchers have discovered that grouping children of different ages in one class encourages natural, family-style learning, which is why Music Together® developed the Mixed-Age Music Class. In this class, everyone participates at their own levels: babies vocalize, listen, and observe; toddlers play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. Grownups appreciate this class model because everyone can attend together!

Interactive Classes for New Parents (birth - 8 months)

This class is geared exclusively towards families with infants from birth through eight months, and is a one-semester introduction to Music Together and to early childhood music development.  Following this one semester, families are ready to join the Mixed Age classes.  The music activities in a Babies class are specifically designed to teach parents how to support music development in infancy and how to connect with their infants through music, using concepts like "purposeful touch," "sound layering," and "dancing for baby."  Babies classes use the same collection as Mixed-Age classes, giving families a seamless transition between class programs.

Our ten week (unless otherwise specified) semester includes songs, rhythmic rhymes, movement, and instrument play in classes of 45 to 50 minutes.  These activities are presented as informal, non-performance-oriented musical experiences--developmentally appropriate for children and easy for parents and caregivers--regardless of their own musical ability. Class materials for all Family Classes will include one CD plus a songbook, an access code for digital download of songs in the current collection, as well as access to Music Together's Family Music Zone and Hello Everybody app!
